หมายเหตุ  Summary: This textbook approaches the study of critical care withteaching in mind. In medicine “teachable moments” usuallyoccur in clinical context, where the engagement in a realcase exemplifies principles of diagnosis or therapy. Inorder to replicate the teaching method, selected cases arepresented within each chapter offering the reader anopportunity to process and reflect on the components ofthe topic within a practical scenario. While medicalpractice attempts to be evidence-based, common approachesto diagnosis and management incorporate not only evidencebut heuristics and biases which await either validation orrepudiation. Hence, each chapter is divided into twosegments: the “Principles of Management” section – thecommon approach to the care of patients having a givencondition is presented – and the “Evidence Contour”section, in which each author discusses the aspects ofdiagnosis and management that are the subject of ongoingdebate. Evidence-Based Critical Care: A Case StudyApproach bridges the gulf between the traditionalencyclopedic textbook and the single-hit onlinerepository. This approach will help critical carepractitioners, fellows, residents, allied healthprofessionals and students expand their critical careknowledge in an efficient and effective manner, whilebeing especially important for those preparing for boardexaminations
